The Main Themes and Topics Covered in This Juzz/Para of the Holy Quran

Para 14, known as Rubama, combines warnings against rejecting revelation with reminders of Allah’s countless blessings. Surah Al-Hijr begins by exposing the misplaced confidence of those who dismiss the truth.

Allah promises to preserve the Quran, despite the opposition directed against it. The creation of Adam and Iblis’s refusal to obey are recalled.

Iblis seeks to mislead humanity, but Allah’s sincere servants are distinguished from those who willingly follow him. The contrast between Paradise and punishment reinforces the seriousness of that choice.

The para recounts the angels’ visit to Ibrahim and the destruction of the people of Lut. It also mentions other communities that rejected their messengers.

Their worldly security and impressive homes could not protect them when Allah’s judgment arrived. Surah Al-Hijr closes by consoling the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and instructing him to continue proclaiming the message, glorifying Allah, and worshipping Him.

Opposition is met with steadfast devotion rather than abandonment of duty. Surah An-Nahl draws attention to blessings in everyday life: livestock, crops, rain, milk, honey, shelter, transport, and the sea.

These gifts point to one Creator and expose the helplessness of idols. Gratitude requires acknowledging the Giver and using His blessings obediently.

The surah discusses revelation, resurrection, and accountability. It warns against making false claims about what Allah has permitted or forbidden.

The example of a secure town that becomes ungrateful shows how blessings may be lost through persistent wrongdoing. Practical instructions command justice, kindness, assistance to relatives, and fulfilment of promises.

Indecency, wrongdoing, oppression, and deceptive oaths are prohibited. Believing men and women who act righteously are promised a good life and reward.

Ibrahim is praised for his sincere devotion and gratitude. The para ends by teaching wisdom and gracious counsel in calling others to Allah, together with patience and restraint when responding to harm and opposition.

Selected tafsir references (Ma’ariful Qur’an): 15:9; 15:28; 16:90; 16:125.
